Common questions

What is a delimiter?

A delimiter is a character or sequence that separates values in text. CSV uses commas, TSV uses tabs, and other formats use pipes or semicolons. A separator tells a parser where one field ends and the next begins.

Can I use a custom delimiter?

Yes. Choose Custom for the input or output separator and enter one or more characters. The input delimiter must not be empty.

Will this preserve a spreadsheet table?

This tool flattens fields into a list. To preserve rows and column names when converting a table, use the CSV to JSON converter. Quoted CSV fields can contain commas, line breaks, or escaped double quotes.

Does the converter upload my text?

No. Delimiter conversion runs locally in your browser. Copy and download also operate on the result in your current browser session.
